Sir:-
I am directed by Secretary Sir E. Grey to trans-
mit to you herewith copy of a Statement of Expenses in-
curred by the Solicitors to the Crown Agents, Messrs.
Sutton, Ommanney and Rendall, in connection with the
Appeal, No. 113 of 1913, heard before the Judicial
Committee of the Privy Council, of an Afghan Sepoy,
Ibrahim, against the sentence of death passed on him
by the Supreme Court of HongKong for the murder of a
Subadar at Canton.
As the offence was committed in China, and the
prisoner was tried at HongKong, solely on account of the
proximity of that Colony to Canton where the murder
took place, Sir Edward Gray would request the sanction
of the Lords Commissioners of His Majesty'a Treasury
to the payment of the cost of the prisoner's mainten-
ance, as well as of the expenses incurred by the
Solicitors to the Crown Agents, as a charge against
The Secretary
to the Treasury.
